Well, at least she did inwhen Allure interviewed her during her Suits days, long before we knew her as a duchess instead of a cable-TV star.
I also love Tatcha. Hell, practically the entire Allure team loves Tatcha. The Japanese skin-care brand is so good, it's taken home its fair share of Best of Beauty Awards throughout the years, and — the same year Markle officially joined the royal family — is no exception.
Before I get to the nitty-gritty, I've got to say that this year's winner is a good one. I know because I helped choose it.
Tatcha's Deep Cleansea cleanser-exfoliator hybrid, is an oil-free face wash designed for those with combination and oily skin. I'm a mix of both, FYI. This is not your traditional gel cleanser, though. Texture-wise, it starts as a gel-like formula, with a bit of grit I say grit because there are tiny, ground up Japanese luffa fruit fibers encapsulated in the gel to gently exfoliate as it surface cleansbut as it starts to lather, it quickly transforms into a frothy foam.
It's quite nice, and gives the user hi, me! Aside from fruit enzymes, there's leopard lily a scentless flower to minimize production of excess sebum, and wild rose to smooth skin texture and diminish the appearance of pores. The formula also smells pretty nice: It's hard to describe the exact scent, but it's a bit medicinal with a hint of freshness — similar to the scent of Tatcha's Silk Cream.
Post-cleanse, my skin feels soft and smooth, never stripped — as if the gunk's been wiped away without also sloughing away my skin's natural oils.
After a recent deskside meeting with Tatcha, I learned that the founder, Vicky Tsai, uses this cleanser as an all-over exfoliator — from her head to her toes — so now I scrub all the way down to my feet if I have time. It's almost as if I'm giving my body the royal treatment, you know?

Tied for tops in Lab testing, the silky light- weight liquid evens out skin tone effectively and rated best for texture, easy application and spreadability.

Allure Best of Beauty Awards: Winners in Hair
Most of it is excitingsome of it confusing, and sometimes it gets overwhelming — alas, that is the beauty editor's burden to bear. When we really like something, though, you can trust that our opinion has come from vetting it against everything we've seen before.
It's a big beauty playground out there and we'll gladly do the dirty work to test everything under the sun. The top of the top that we encounter graduate to our Best of Beauty trials.
Speaking about overwhelming — let's stick to the present for now and just talk about the brand-new hair, makeup, and skin-care products we're obsessing over right now. The formula is medium-coverage but it builds nicely so it can be sheered out or layered and doesn't feel cakey at all.
It has a lovely subtle luminescence in the finish so my skin still glows through, looking like a goddamn pearl. The founder, Evelyn Subramaniam, wants her customers to feel connected to the products and incorporate them into their daily rituals. While all four blends are delightful, Rejoice is a favorite for me — it has a lively blend of grapefruit, cyprus, and organic ylang ylang essential oils among others and is a great pick-me-up for the 4 p. This Sephora one is unexpectedly fluffy. Most foundations are super dense and deposit too much product onto the face for a thicker, heavier effect.
This one diffuses the foundation for a more even, natural-looking finish. Ole Henrkisen and some prescription meds helped cure my acne, but the scarring and dark spots where still there, haunting me. Let's just say this brand hasn't let me down yet, this stuff is liquid gold. It also helps add texture to my naturally straight hair and allows it to better hold when I want to style it with messy waves.
It smells amazing and doubles as a hair perfume. Now, if you're not a skin-care geek like me, this probably means nothing to you. But for my fellow nerds hi, I see youthis just means a lot of work went into the making of this ultra-hydrating moisturizer made with hyaluronic acid, glycerin, and ceramides — and after a few weeks of use, it certainly shows.
After consistently using the cream, which has a texture that's neither thick nor thin kind of like the Goldilocks of moisturizers, if you willmy skin has felt and looked more plump and hydrated than ever before. That says a lot, considering how many moisturizers I try in my line of work.
An unfortunate experience with lemon-coated medicine when I was a little kid and the caustic scent of cleaning supplies kinda ruined it for me. So when a bottle of Margiela's Under the Lemon Trees arrived in my office I almost didn't even give it a whiff. I'm glad I did, though. This fragrance captures the zesty, earthy quality of the citrus fruit, while the addition of coriander and musk give it a warm, sunny quality to the scent that is incredibly sexy. Besides the fact that it's incredibly soothing, I also noticed that it does add moisture not grease to my dry winter scalp.
Oh, and it smells just as good as it feels. It looks amazing on my golden skin tone and the blending brush on the other end makes this product really easy to use and travel with.
I mean, if I ever went anywhere. But I imagine people who do travel a lot would totally love these — oh my god, are these makeup sticks more well-traveled than me? Saturated, satin lip color, longlasting moisturizing feel, and SPF 15 — this drugstore balm hits all the top three tiers for an ultimate lip product.
These have been flying off shelves since launching, and it's easy to see why. Of the 11 shades, there's a really nice mix of warm-toned nudes, mauves, and some bolder pinks and red, all of which can give you a low-key polished lip look. One editor's fave is the shade Brazilian Nut. For us non-Italians, the name of this product is fancy for "body oil.
With a subtle, comforting scent of sweet citrus, putting this on feels like you're on vacation almost. Before we were all taking Instagram polls and voting on a brand's next nail polish colors, Allure began crowdsourcing the ultimate shopping guide for beauty products. Gathering all those favorites into one awesome list of your most beloved lipsticks, mascaras, moisturizers, and more was a novel idea at the time.

Currently, each has a unique definition of the word, which, it could be argued, adds to the confusion. In JuneSephora introduced the Clean at Sephora initiative, which included stamping approved products with a green leaf seal, and dedicating store space and online product pages to the clean category.
Lee said finalizing the honorees is an eight-month process that includes three months of testing 7, products. And in the end, it works to sell those products.
